Rwanda Visa for Armenian Citizens: Free Visa on Arrival

Armenian citizens travelling to Rwanda for a short tourist visit can obtain a visa on arrival without paying a government visa fee for a 30-day visit. An advance visa application is not compulsory for this route. This guide covers ordinary Armenian passport holders and explains the distinction between the free arrival arrangement and the separate agreement concerning diplomatic and service passports.

Do Armenian Citizens Need a Visa Before Travelling to Rwanda?

You do not need to arrange a visa before departure when using the eligible visa-on-arrival route. Rwanda’s immigration authority permits arrival applications without prior submission.

Armenia is a member of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. Rwanda’s embassy guidance specifically includes Armenia among the countries whose citizens receive a visa on arrival with the fee waived for a 30-day visit.

The practical distinction is a free visa issued on arrival, with immigration formalities still required.

These routes should be assessed separately. The diplomatic agreement does not establish an ordinary-passport exemption.

Entry Requirements for Armenian Passport Holders

Your passport should be valid for at least six months on the day you enter Rwanda.

You must have sufficient funds for your stay; supporting evidence may be requested. Vaccination documentation may also be required under the health rules applicable to your journey. Check current requirements before departure.

As practical preparation, keep your accommodation details and return or onward itinerary accessible. These recommendations are separate from the document instructions for an online visa application.

Optional Online Applications and Visa Fees

Travellers who prefer advance arrangements can use the official IremboGov portal. Select Visa Application, enter your personal and travel details, and upload the documents requested for your visa category.

IremboGov lists common attachments such as a passport biodata-page copy, a photograph with a white background and an application letter. Its guidance, updated on 27 August 2026, gives a processing estimate of four days. Allow additional time for document requests; this is not an approval guarantee.

For the eligible 30-day arrival visit, Armenian citizens pay no government visa fee. Other categories should be checked separately. Private service charges are distinct from government fees, and purchasing private assistance is not required to use the free arrival route.

Does the Rwanda–Armenia Visa Agreement Cover Ordinary Passports?

Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the two countries signed a mutual visa-exemption agreement on 25 September 2026. The announcement specifies diplomatic and service passports.

It does not establish an exemption for ordinary Armenian passports or state the agreement’s entry-into-force date. Holders of the specified passports should confirm implementation before relying on it.

Longer Stays and Employment

Do not assume that the free 30-day visit automatically permits a longer stay. Consult DGIE about the appropriate permission and seek an extension while your current visa remains valid.

The visitor arrangement does not permit employment. Check the relevant immigration permission before planning to work in Rwanda.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rwanda visa-free for Armenian citizens?

For this short-visit route, the precise description is visa on arrival with the government visa fee waived. Border formalities still apply.

Is French-language ability required?

The arrangement is based on citizenship of a member country. Armenia’s OIF membership provides the relevant connection; the published rule does not set a French-language requirement.

Can Armenian citizens stay for 90 days free of charge?

Do not assume so. The verified Francophonie arrangement covers a 30-day visit. A different visa or permission must be assessed separately for a longer itinerary.
