Rwanda Visa for Cypriot Citizens: Free 30-Day Visa on Arrival
Cypriot citizens travelling on ordinary passports can obtain a Rwanda visa on arrival without applying before departure. For a 30-day visit, the government visa fee is waived because Cyprus is a Commonwealth member. This guide covers short tourist visits by citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. The fee waiver does not remove immigration checks or guarantee admission.
Choose the Entry Route That Matches Your Trip
Your travel purpose and planned length of stay determine which entry arrangement is appropriate.
| Your travel plan | Entry route | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Tourism for up to 30 days | Visa on arrival with the government fee waived | No advance application is required for this route. |
| You prefer to arrange permission before departure | Official online application through IremboGov | Select the category appropriate to your visit. |
| A longer stay or a different purpose | Relevant DGIE visa or permit category | Check the specific requirements rather than assuming the 30-day arrangement applies. |
Rwanda issues visas on arrival at Kigali International Airport and its land borders. Present your passport to immigration and check the entry permission recorded for your visit, including the authorised duration.

Passport and Entry Preparation
Your passport should have at least six months of remaining validity when you enter Rwanda. You must also have sufficient funds to cover your stay; immigration officers may request supporting evidence.
As practical travel preparation, keep the following information accessible:
- Your accommodation address and booking details.
- Your return or onward travel itinerary.
- Records showing how you will cover your travel expenses.
These recommendations are separate from the document checklist for an online visa application.
If applying online, IremboGov commonly requests a passport biodata-page copy, a photograph with a white background and an application letter. The required attachments depend on the selected visa category.
Check Health Rules Against Your Full Itinerary
Visa eligibility alone does not establish whether you can enter Rwanda. Recent travel history and public health measures may also affect admission.
Rwanda’s published notice dated 22 May 2026 states that foreign nationals who visited or transited through the Democratic Republic of Congo within the preceding 30 days will be denied entry. Rwandan nationals and foreign residents with valid proof of residency in Rwanda have a separate entry and quarantine arrangement.
Yellow fever documentation also depends on the countries travelled from or recently visited and the applicable outbreak rules.

Arranging a Rwanda Visa Online Before Departure
Cypriot travellers who qualify for the 30-day arrival arrangement do not need to obtain an eVisa before travelling. However, an official online application is available if you prefer advance arrangements.
To apply through IremboGov:
- Visit IremboGov and select Visa Application under Immigration and Emigration.
- Choose the category matching your travel purpose.
- Enter your passport, personal and travel details accurately.
- Upload the requested documents in the formats displayed.
- Review your information, submit the application and follow any applicable payment instructions.
For applications classified as free, IremboGov forwards the request for processing without the payment step.
Fees and Processing: What to Expect
The government visa fee is waived for the qualifying 30-day arrival visit. This waiver does not cover private service charges or other travel expenses.
For advance applications, IremboGov publishes a processing time of four days. Treat this as a published estimate rather than a guaranteed approval deadline.
Rwanda Immigration Services is an independent commercial provider. Any private service charge must be distinguished from an official immigration fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does living in Cyprus give me the same visa benefit?
This guide concerns Cypriot citizenship. If you hold another passport, check the rules applicable to that nationality rather than relying on your Cyprus address.
Can I leave Rwanda and return using the same arrival permission?
The Commonwealth visa-waiver category is single entry. Do not assume that the same permission covers departure and re-entry; check the requirements for your return journey.
Can I work during a short visit?
No. The visitor permission described here does not authorise employment. Consult DGIE about the appropriate category before planning work in Rwanda.
