Rwanda Waives Visa Fees for Jamaican Visitors: 30-Day Stay
Jamaican citizens travelling to Rwanda for a short tourism visit can obtain a visa on arrival with the government visa fee waived for 30 days. An advance eVisa application is not compulsory for this route. You must still meet entry conditions and follow the permission issued by Rwanda’s immigration authorities.

Your Visa Fee and Entry Arrangement
Jamaica is a Commonwealth member. Rwanda grants citizens of Commonwealth countries a visa on arrival without the visa charge for a 30-day visit, and Rwanda’s High Commission explicitly includes Jamaica in its published list.
The practical distinction is between a visa fee waiver and entry without immigration formalities. You still receive entry permission; the qualifying visa is issued without the government visa fee.
For an ordinary short holiday, you do not need to purchase an advance application service simply to use the arrival arrangement. Rwanda has allowed citizens of all countries to obtain visas on arrival without prior application since 1 January 2018.
Choose the Route That Fits Your Trip
Your purpose and itinerary should determine the route you use.
| Your travel plan | Appropriate next step | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| A tourism visit of up to 30 days | Obtain the fee-waived visa on arrival | Meet entry requirements and observe the authorised departure date |
| You prefer to apply before travelling | Use Rwanda’s official online application channel | Select the category that matches your visit |
| You plan to stay beyond the initial permission | Check the renewal or permit procedure with DGIE | Additional permission must be obtained through the relevant process |
| You intend to work | Confirm the required immigration permission | The short visitor arrangement does not authorise employment |
Rwanda’s published visitor rules distinguish categories by purpose, duration and entry count. Do not assume that a 30-day fee waiver includes a 90-day multiple-entry visa.
Prepare for Arrival Checks
Your Jamaican passport should be valid for at least six months on entry. The fee-waived visitor arrangement is listed as single entry, and employment is not permitted.
As practical preparation, keep the following accessible:
- Your original passport.
- Your accommodation address or host’s contact details.
- Your return or onward travel itinerary.
- Records showing how you will cover the costs of your visit.
- Any advance visa approval, if you chose to apply online.
These supporting records help you explain your travel plans. They are not presented here as a universal upload checklist for a visa on arrival.
IremboGov states that arrival visas are available at Kigali International Airport and Rwanda’s land borders. Check your travel documents before departure and retain the entry permission issued to you.

Applying Before Departure Through IremboGov
If you prefer an advance application, Rwanda provides an official online channel through IremboGov. Applying online is an alternative to the eligible arrival route.
For an online application:
- Visit IremboGov.
- Select Visa Application under Immigration and Emigration.
- Choose the visa type appropriate to your purpose.
- Enter your nationality, passport and travel details accurately.
- Upload the documents requested for that category.
- Review the information and submit your application.
- Follow the portal’s payment instructions if a charge applies.
Common attachments include a passport biodata-page copy, a photograph with a white background and an application letter. Requirements vary by visa type. IremboGov explains that applications for free visas proceed to DGIE without the payment step.
The portal currently publishes a processing time of four days. Allow sufficient time before departure; a published timeframe should not be treated as guaranteed approval.
Longer Visits and Changes to Your Travel Plans
If your itinerary exceeds the permission granted, check the appropriate procedure before that permission expires. IremboGov directs travellers already in Rwanda who wish to extend their stay to the Renew Visa or Permit services.
Work, study and residence plans require checking the relevant category rather than relying on a short tourism permission.
Likewise, leaving Rwanda and returning can affect the permission you need. Confirm the entry count and conditions for your itinerary instead of assuming the original single-entry arrangement covers repeated visits.
Official Information and This Website
Rwanda Immigration Services is an independent commercial website and is not associated with Rwanda’s government. Using this website does not make an advance paid application compulsory.
If you are comparing paid assistance, distinguish any provider’s service or administrative charges from the official visa fee. The government visa charge is waived for the qualifying 30-day arrival visit described in this guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Jamaican citizens need an eVisa before travelling to Rwanda?
No advance application is required for the qualifying visa-on-arrival route. Applying before departure remains an option for travellers who prefer to arrange their visa online.
Does Jamaica qualify for Rwanda’s 90-day ordinary-passport exemption?
Jamaica is listed under the 30-day visa fee-waiver arrangement. It is not included in the separate 90-day ordinary-passport exemption list published by Rwanda’s High Commission.
Must I upload a passport photograph to use the arrival route?
The photograph discussed in the online application section is an IremboGov attachment. Do not treat the online upload requirements as a universal checklist for a visa issued at the border. Follow the instructions for your chosen route.
